Peanut Chutney

Peanuts are the favorite filling (peanut butter) for the sandwich for most of the kids. Peanuts offer a variety of health benefits. Peanuts are good sources of vitamin E, niacin, folate, protein and manganese.

Peanuts are not true nuts as the name suggests, but a member of a family of legumes related to peas, lentils, chickpeas and other beans.

Many people feel that peanuts are the source of weight gaining. Don’t let these concerns prevent you from enjoying the delicious taste and many health benefits of nuts!

O.K. I wrote too much. Now let’s go into the actual recipe. This is the easy method of preparing peanut chutney.

Ingredients:

  • 1-cup roasted Peanuts (I used Planters roasted peanuts)
  • ½ cup desiccated Coconut dry or fresh
  • 3 Green Chilies
  • 3 dry Red Chilies
  • ½ tsp Tamarind paste
  • Salt to taste

For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
  • ½ tsp Bengal Gram Dal (Pacchi Senaga Pappu)
  • ½ tsp Black Gram Dal (Minapa Pappu)
  • 1 broken dry Red Chili
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • 1 tsp Oil

Preparation:

In a blender add all the ingredients and grind them into a smooth paste by adding little water. Then prepare the seasoning. For this, heat the oil in a small pan and add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the cumin seeds, the Bengal and Black gram dals and fry until the dals turn golden brown. Finally add the red chiles and the curry leaves and fry for a little while. Add this seasoning to the prepared chutney. That’s it. Great tasting peanut chutney is ready to serve with dosas or any snack.
