Indira's Tomato Bath

Tomato Bath

This month we will be cooking the recipes from Indira’s Mahanandi for Tried & Tasted event hosted by Zlamushka. Indira needs no introduction, I guess! She has been the inspiration for many bloggers, I was no exception. Her site is like an encyclopedia of cooking. She provides a lot of information for a particular ingredient or recipe which will be so helpful to everyone.

I liked the way she prepared the simple tomato bath and made it so appealing both for the eyes and the stomach. So I wanted to make my favorite tomato bath in Indira’s style. It was so delicious and colorful too. Thanks for such a delicious recipe Indira!

I followed Indira’s original recipe to the letter, but I don’t know why I couldn’t get that vibrant color like Indira’s! The only change I made was replacing green peas and charoli nuts with cashews! Even though I couldn’t get that bright color, the tomato bath tasted so delicious. We enjoyed it with spicy red hot chili pickle (recipe coming soon!).

This is my contribution to Zlamushka’s Tried & Tasted event. Thanks for hosting such a nice event Zlamushka! It’s paving us the way to explore different blogs and try their wonderful recipes.

On a different note, I would like to thank Vibaas and Suma Rajesh for passing me the beautiful "Butterfly Award". Thank you ladies, so nice of you to think about me!

Sia’s Goli Baje

As the deadline for Zlamushka’s Tried & Tasted event is approaching, yesterday I went for a stroll in Sia’s Place. As we all know, Sia is admired not only for breathtaking pictures but also for her delicious recipes. So after spending at least an hour (seriously!) at her place, trying to make a hard decision what to select, this Goli Baje recipe caught my attention. This was so easy to make and tasted delicious too. Thanks for such a wonderful recipe Sia!

Goli Baje served with Cilantro Chutney

I followed her original recipe to the letter. The little changes I made were, adding dried ginger powder instead of fresh ginger as I don’t have it on hand and using all purpose flour instead of maida/plain flour as suggested in the original recipe.

Anyway, I will give the recipe in the way I did.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour

  • 1 cup Buttermilk

  • 4 small green Chilies

  • ½ tsp dry Ginger Powder

  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to deep fry

Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients above except oil and make a thick paste.

Keep it covered for 2 hours (Sia suggested to keep it for 2-3 hours).

Heat the oil in a deep-bottomed pan. When it is hot, take small portions of the batter or paste with a spoon and drop carefully in the oil. Be careful not to burn your hand.

Deep fry them until they turn golden brown in color. Keep the flame in medium setting.

Serve hot with any desired chutney and a cup of hot tea/coffee.

These Goli Baje tasted so soft and delicious too. Thanks for the yummy recipe Sia!

In the original recipe Sia suggested to serve these with coriander chutney for which also she provided a recipe. But I didn’t make her chutney as I have the cilantro pickle we made some days back resting the refrigerator. So I used that pickle for dipping these yummy Goli Baje.

I am Sending these Goli Baje to Zlamushka’s Tried & Tasted: Monsoon Spice.

And these also go to “WYF: Party Food” event hosted by Easy Crafts.

Wait, wait! I forgot one more event!!!

These Goli Baje are also my contribution to Hima’s “Sunday Snacks: Fry It”.

Bread Rolls for MBP

I saw these bread rolls in Medhaa’s blog long back and bookmarked to try. Now I found a reason to make them today. Yeah, you guessed right! For “MBP: September – Say Cheese” event taking part at Siri’s corner, we have to cook something from other bloggers! So I made these delicious bread rolls for that cheesiest event.

I didn’t make any changes to the original recipe. For the filling I used Filling 1 (Mixed Vegetables) as suggested in the recipe. I just omitted cilantro (actually I forgot, he he). I tried the baking version at first, but couldn’t get the rolls perfect. So tried the deep-fried version again and voila! The bread rolls turned out perfect and delicious and irresistible. Thank you for the yummy recipe dear Medhaa! We all enjoyed the rolls so much, so will be making these often. Do visit Medhaa’s blog for many delicious and easy Sindhi recipes.

Updated to add the recipe on friends' request:
Here are the ingredients and procedure I followed to make these delicious Bread Rolls:

Ingredients:
  • 4 loaves of Bread
  • 1/2 cup of mixed Vegetables for filling (I used the mixture of grated carrot, finely diced onions and green chillies and some red bell pepper pieces)
  • 1/4 cup of grated cheese (any kind) (I used 4 cheeses used for pizzas)
  • A handful of Cilantro
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Salt to taste
Preparation:
  1. Mix together all the ingredients except oil and bread and keep aside.
  2. Remove edges of the bread slices and keep aside.
  3. In a plate pour some water or milk, dip each bread slice and gently squeeze out the excess water or milk by pressing the slice with your both palms.
  4. Place some portion of the prepared mixed vegetable mixture in the center of each slice and bring the sides together to seal the edges completely and try to make an oval shape.
  5. Do the same with rest of the slices.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep-bottomed pan and add these prepared bread rolls one by one carefully.
  7. Fry the rolls until those turn golden brown in color. Then take the rolls out of the oil and spread on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
  8. These rolls are at their best when eaten hot. Enjoy with ketchup or any chutney.

These delicious bread rolls are my contribution for two events:

  1. “MBP: September – Say Cheese” event being hosted by dear Siri. MBP (Monthly Blog Patrol) is the brainchild of Coffee of The Spice Café.
  2. ½ cup of cheese was used in this recipe which is very rich in calcium and many other nutrients. So the rolls are entering dear Sangeeth’s “Eat Healthy – Calcium Rich” event too.

Jai & Bee’s Carrot – Pear – Ginger Mocktail

I have seen this mocktail in Jugalbandi’s place long back and bookmarked to try. Now when Zlamushka has announced that we will be cooking Jugalbandi’s recipes for Tried & Tasted event, I definitely knew what to make.

I think, no introduction is needed for the wonderful duo Jai & Bee, who own a great place called Jugalbandi, where they share their amazing talents in many fields. They have so many delicious and gorgeous recipes in their blog, not to mention stunning pictures.

Carrot – Pear – Ginger Mocktail is such a refreshing, healthy and filling drink. And so colorful too! We liked it so much. Thanks for the great recipe Jai & Bee! I didn’t make any changes to the original recipe which can be found here.

This is my contribution for this month’s “Tried & Tasted” event at Zlamushka’s.

This is also my entry to “MBP Fruit Fare” event at Aparna’s. MBP was started by Coffee of Spice Café.

I am also sending this to EasyCraft’s “Color in Food” event. I chose the color ORANGE as the mocktail is bright orange.

Nupur’s Kati Roll

Tried and Tasted (T&T) is a monthly event of appreciation of other blogs - an opportunity to thank our fellow bloggers for sharing their recipes by re-creating them. This month, we’re given a great opportunity to cook the recipes of Nupur of One Hot Stove.

This event is started by Zlamushka of Burnt Mouth, who has so many mouth-watering recipes in her place. You really are doing a great job Zlamushka, by coming up with such a nice event of appreciating fellow bloggers. Best wishes to you!

Coming to the recipe I have chosen it from Nupur’s recipe collection, which was a hard decision indeed. She had so many delicious recipes that I want to try, but I made up my mind on one recipe for now. I prepared the delicious Kati Rolls for our dinner yesterday. The rolls tasted so good and I am glad I decided on them.

I just followed the original recipe step by step. The only change I made was adding some red bell pepper pieces along with green bell pepper pieces as suggested in the recipe. And I used frozen veggies instead of fresh ones. We all love these Kati Rolls. Your recipe rocks, Nupur!

These yummy rolls are my contribution to Zlamushka’s Tried and Tasted (T&T) event.

I am also sending these to Madhuram’s “Your Recipe Rocks” event, as this is a non rice wholesome food, from another blog.

This is also my entry to Sia’s “MBP – Street Food”, as the theme of this event is to cook some street food from a fellow blogger. MBP event is the brainchild of Coffee of The Spice Cafe.

With that I am signing off! Have a great weekend friends! Happy Father’s Day to all the dads!

Peanut Punch from Tastes Like Home

Tried and Tasted (T&T) is a monthly event of appreciation of other blogs - an opportunity to thank our fellow bloggers for sharing their recipes by re-creating them. This month, we’re given a great opportunity to cook the recipes of dear Cynthia of Tastes like Home.

Dear Zlamushka has left a sweet comment on my blog about this great event. So I peeped into Cynthia’s home to look at the taste. Oh boy! I felt like I have stepped into a paradise full of so many mouth-watering recipes and captivating pictures. I just wanted to stay at her home forever enjoying all those yummy dishes. After a while, I came to my senses and started to search for a wonderful recipe, though it was so hard to make up my mind on one recipe. After spending almost an hour there, I found this refreshing recipe for a Peanut Punch. So I immediately decided to prepare it and so I did. And I am glad I did that, because all of us (especially kids) liked it so much and it was a hit. I haven’t made any changes to the original recipe. Thank you Zlamushka for hosting such a wonderful event! Thank you Cynthia for introducing me to such great recipes!

The original recipe can be found in Cynthia’s Tastes Like Home. This is my contribution for “Tried and Tasted” event being hosted by dear Zlamushka of Spicy Kitchen.

Annu’s Tomato Pasta (Your Recipe Rocks) and a Meme

Last Thursday I prepared Annu’s Tomato pasta for dinner. It was so delicious and we all enjoyed it so much. I have made some additions and deletions to the original recipe.

I omitted garlic and butter as said in the original recipe. Instead of butter I used olive oil. I added mixed vegetables and basil to the pasta. We enjoyed this tomato pasta so much. Thanks for such a yummy recipe, dear Annu! “Your recipe really rocks”.

The event “your recipe rocks” is started by dear Madhuram of Eggless Cooking. The main intention of this event is to cook a non-rice dish from a fellow blogger and it has to be a wholesome, stomach filling main dish.

Next let me talk about the meme. I have been tagged by dear Shubha Ravikoti to write about 10 things I hate. It is easy to write about 10 things I like, but 10 things I hate, has put me into test. So I sharpened by brain a little bit and finally came up with these things. Have fun reading. Thanks for the tag, Shubha! That was fun.

  • 1. When it is too hot or too cold. I know it is Mother Nature’s sport and we can’t change it. Even then I hate to sweat and shiver.
  • 2. I hate being alone during nights. I am afraid of darkness and the silence of night time.
  • 3. I hate it when anyone tries to shower advices on me as if I know nothing.
  • 4. I hate bragging.
  • 5. I hate watching movies that are full of violence and hatred and of course tragedy.
  • 6. I hate to take long walks, but my hubby makes me do that for fitness.
  • 7. I hate to get wet in the rain (only rain!). I don’t know why!
  • 8. I hate it when small kids talk big words like grown-ups. I like when the kids behave like kids.
  • 9. I hate bad smells. I like fresh, fragrant odors.
  • 10. I hate to eat eggs directly like boiled egg, omelets etc. Of course I eat them when they are in the invisible form like in cakes, cookies etc.

That’s all to it. No more I think! Hope you enjoyed reading it. I don’t want to tag anyone specifically. Anyone who is interested to do this meme can take up this. It’s up to you! But, believe me, it was real fun doing this.

Pooja’s Garooda – Your Recipe Rocks and An Award

Last Wednesday I tried Pooja’s delicious Garooda for our lunch. Garooda is nothing but pancakes (dosas) made with cooked rice and besan. I wish to thank Pooja for this wonderful recipe. We all liked it so much and it was so filling. It was easy to prepare and tasted so good that I would be making it frequently. I didn’t make any changes to the original recipe. The only change I made was: I added some tomatoes and desiccated coconut to the batter and omitted the capsicum. We ate it with ginger chutney.

Your Recipe Rocks is the wonderful theme started by Madhuram of Egglesscooking. I know the main rule for this event is to try recipes from our blogger friends that don’t involve rice in the ingredients. But as I liked this recipe so much and wish to show my appreciation towards Pooja for her delicious recipe, I thought of using it for “Your Recipe Rocks” theme. I hope it is O.K. Next time, when I prepare any recipe from other blogs for this theme, I will be so careful to try the recipe that doesn’t involve rice.

My dear friend, Home Cooked has made me so happy by sending the “Nice Matters Award” my way. Thank you so much for this, HC!

Peas and Capsicum Rice for MBP

When Pavani of Cook’s Hideout has announced the “Monthly Blog Patrol-April: One Pot Wonders” for April, I started to search different blogs for recipes. I really amazed to see so many wonderful recipes to choose from which was a hard decision to make. I finally landed on Vanamala’s PEAS & CAPSICUM RICE. She has so many other delicious recipes too. I chose this rice item for three reasons: one is, I had all the ingredients at hand as mentioned in it and second is, it is so green in color, which happened to be my favorite color and third is, it looked so delicious too. You can find the original recipe here.

I didn’t make any changes to the original recipe except for few things like:
  1. Instead of cooked rice as she mentioned, I used uncooked basmati rice.
  2. Instead of fresh coconut, I used desiccated coconut.
  3. Reduced the amount of oil to use with the recipe.

I used the pressure pan to cook this Peas & Capsicum Rice. Hot, delicious rice was served with plain yogurt and some papads. Thanks Vanamala for sharing such a delicious recipe.

This delicious Peas and Capsicum Rice goes to Pavani’s Monthly Blog Patrol-April: One Pot Wonders.

Mango Lassi for MBP Mixed Drinks

I made this mango lassi for the MBP - Mixed Drinks as a part of the Monthly Blog Patrol started by Coffee of The Spice Cafe and now being hosted by Sig of Live to Eat.
According to Sig, a mixed drink is a type of beverage in which two or more different ingredients are mixed together to create a different drink and it can be cocktails, mocktails, punches, smoothies anything your heart desires, only criteria is that the recipe must be from another food blog.

I have chosen “Mango Lassi” posted by Meera of Enjoy Indian Food as my entry to the above event.

I have made minor changes to the original recipe. As I don’t have the mango pulp as suggested in the original recipe, I replaced it with mango juice. I didn’t use the saffron threads too. I followed everything else mentioned in the original recipe of Meera. So here is the outcome. It tasted so delicious, refreshing and cool.
