Banana Pepper Fries

Banana Pepper Fries
Delicious Fries made with banana peppers dipped in wheat flour

When I visited the groceries last time, these bright yellow chilies (Banana Peppers) caught my attention. Just picked those and brought home (of course I paid for those!). At first I thought of making chutney with these, but ended up with making these delicious fries. (I stored some chilies in the freezer for chutney of course!)
Let's see the recipe:

Ingredients:
Banana Peppers
  • Banana Peppers – 3
  • Wheat Flour – 1 cup
  • A pinch of Soda
  • Baking Powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Oil to deep fry
Method:
  1. Remove stalk and deseed the yellow chilies and cut into long thin strips like in the picture. Keep aside.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the batter by adding required water along with the baking powder + Soda + Salt to the wheat flour.
  3. The batter shouldn’t be too thick or too thin. It should be thick enough to dip the chilies so that the chilies are coated well with the batter.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep-bottomed pan. Dip each chili strip in the wheat flour batter and drop carefully in the hot oil.
  5. Deep-fry till the chili fries turn golden brown and remove from the oil. Repeat the same process with remaining batter.
  6. Spread these fries on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Enjoy the chili fries with your favorite dip.
  7. Yummy!!

The fritters are so crispy and light..wheat flour batter is new to me and sounds more intersting and simple as I whip up the regular bajji(gram+rice flour) flour as the batter for the coating :)

  43. I made these just now using red, yellow and green pepper strips Uma and they tasted very good. Nice idea of using whole wheat flour instead of chickpea flour. I also added some rice flour, so it was very crispy. Thanks for the recipe.
