Rasam Powder – Version2

Rasam Powder
Aromatic Rasam Powder

Hot, hot.

Well, not the rasam powder.

I am talking about the weather here in California. It’s 105F today. Super hot, isn’t it? Ok this is not at all related to the recipe today. Hang on!

I always make rasam powder at home as I can make it the way I wanted it to be. Of course, once in a while I use store-bought rasam powder when I am lazy to prepare at home, but not many times.

Actually I blogged about a different (my original) versionof rasam powder before, which is the usual recipe I use to make this powder. I learned it from my mom and we all like it so much. It’s very aromatic and makes the rasam so yummy.

Now, I’ve been trying different versions of rasam powders (altogether there are 10 versions) from my cook book. I will blog about all these versions in coming posts.

Coming to the recipe for today: I recently made this version of rasam powder and it came out so good. But, for spicy lovers, this version is not that spicy and kids would love if you make rasam with this non-spicy rasam powder.

Ok finally to the recipe:

 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Coriander Seeds (ధనియాలు, Dhaniya)
  • 1 cup Pigeon Peas (కందిపప్పు, Toor Dal)
  • 2 tsp Black Peppercorns (మిరియాలు)
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds (జీలకర్ర)
  • 2 tsp Black Gram (మినప్పప్పు, Urad Dal)

Preparation:

  1. Dry roast all the ingredients and allow them to cool down.
  2. Add them to a blender jar and grind into a fine powder.
  3. That’s it! Isn’t it so simple?
  4. Rasam powder can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1-2 months.
  5. Just add 1-2 teaspoons of this rasam powder to rasam to make it taste so good and aromatic.
  6. Yummy!!
