This is a very delicious dessert for festival days.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Vermicelli (Semiya)
- 3 ripe Bananas
- 6 cups Milk
- ½ cup Sugar
- 2 tsp Ghee
- Few drops of Orange Food Color (Optional)
- Few raisins
- Few cashews
- Few cardamom seeds
Preparation:
- Mash bananas well with a fork or hand and keep aside.
- Dry roast vermicelli until it turns golden brown in color. To this, add mashed bananas + sugar and mix well.
- Pour milk and bring it to a boil. Keep the pan on med. low flame and allow vermicelli to become soft and cooked.
- When the vermicelli appears cooked and the payasam becomes little thick, turn off the flame.
- In a different pan heat ghee and add raisins + cashews + cardamom seeds. Stir well until the raisins bubble up and cashews turn golden brown in color. Add this to the prepared payasam and mix well.
- Great tasting payasam is ready!! Yummy!!
Please Note: Dear Sra expressed, if milk would curdle when we cook banana and milk together. But I don't think so, as it didn't happen to me. But if you are still in doubt, you can add banana just before turning the flame off.

Another one of your unusual creations, Uma! I know you said to make it on a low flame but I'm still worried that the banana might make the milk curdle - do you think it will work if we perhaps cook the banana separately and add it to the cooked and cooled payasam?
ReplyDeleteDelicious payasam uma..we used to do it different way..ur version sounds great!
ReplyDelete@Sra,
ReplyDeleteHow are you Sra? Long time, right?
Reg. your doubt: No, the milk won't curdle if you cook along with the bananas. At least it didn't happen to me. If you are still in doubt, you can add mashed banana just before turning the flame off and mix well. That will work great too :)
Reg. unusual creation: I don't think adding a fruit to payasam counts to be unusual. I tasted so many payasams with fruit in them :)
Lovley combo, mouthwatering. If we use boiled milk it wont' curdle usually.
ReplyDeleteFragrant kheer with banana in it.
