Idli Fritters

Idli Fritters

I had some leftover idlis, which I wanted to use differently. Usually I make upma out of it, but got bored of it. So I tried this variation. I made idli fritters for the evening snack and they were a hit at our home.

Ingredients:
  • 6 Leftover Idlis
  • 1 small Onion
  • ½ cup Rice Flour
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • 1 tsp dry Red Chili Powder or according to individual taste
  • Water and Salt as required
  • Oil to deep fry
Preparation:
  1. Crush the idlis coarsely with hand. Cut the onion into very fine pieces.
  2. In a bowl mix together the crushed idlis, rice flour, onion pieces, curry leaves, red chili powder and salt by adding little water to make a thick batter so that it can be easily dropped in the oil.
  3. In a deep pan heat the oil. When it is hot, drop the prepared batter carefully into the oil with a big spoon.
  4. Fry them for some time until the fritters turn golden brown in color. Then remove them from the hot oil and spread on a paper towel.
  5. Repeat the same process with remaining batter.
  6. Serve hot with ketchup or ginger chutney and a cup of tea.

  23. uma, dont they absorb too much of oil??? very creative one girl:)

  24. Sia: No, they won't absorb too much oil. That's one good point. As we spread them on a paper towel, all the excess oil will be eliminated. Thanks.

Thankyou everyone for your nice comments.
